A few years ago, when Iceland's Bell was first translated into English, I approached several newspaper and magazine editors and asked them to let me review the book. Most ignored me or sent the usual, curt "no thanks," but one dismissed me with the claim that (and I'm paraphrasing from memory here) "we only review new books, not old ones." That still strikes me as an odd reason not to consider reviewing a book.
