Thank you for sharing this, Frank. The new book looks like one I ought to add to my "must read" list. I remember watching Mr. Buckley on FIRING LINE, and my youthful impressions were that large words, a leaning-back posture, and tapping a pencil to one's mouth as one speaks were the keys to hold one's self out as intelligent. Oh, how shallow my thinking was then. Only later did I begin to grasp and appreciate the erudition and depth of Mr. Buckley's comments and writings. I wonder: Where now are we to find a conservative intellect of such personality, power, and appeal?
I knew Bill. Not well. But well enough to say that on one particular occasion he taught me what it is to be a gentleman. It is something I will never forget.
