Apparently, Principal Foley fails to understand that no one is celebrating atrocities, that the holidays have taken on a life of their own, the way words - and just about everything else - change over time. She may be down on Thanksgiving, but she is in fact a perfect puritan - filled, in Mencken's words, "with the haunting fear that someone somewhere, may be happy."
