… Most writers earn less than £600 a year, survey reveals.
"Most authors write because they want to share something with the world or gain recognition of some sort," Greenfield said. "There are, of course, outliers. The top 2% or so of authors make a good living and the most successful authors – including self-published authors – make a tremendous amount of money."

… Intently haphazard: Casual Opulence — Denise Levertov’s Collected Poems.
Even with her feet on the ground, she seemed to have her heart in the clouds. She saw her life as a spiritual quest and cast herself as a pilgrim, not a visionary—as someone who sees for herself and not for others. This faithfulness to herself can seem like self-absorption, but in reading her voluminous and deeply uneven Collected Poems, one can trace the integrity in the life of her work. It is major work played in a minor key, with her quest sometimes going astray in the maze of her wanderings.
I'll take her work over a good many others' any day.

… After 3 years house arrest China writer Ms. Liu Xia shares poems of isolation.
