Ambiguities ...

I think it is worth remembering that, in Europe, the most successful multicultural regime was Austro-Hungary under Franz Joseph. I understand that he designated successor, Franz Ferdinand - assassinated in Sarajevo - had plans to vastly liberalize the empire. Nothing good seems to have come out of World War I.
