This post had me scratching my head. First, I wonder why Trayon White Sr. is even running against Muriel Bowser. After the Reformists with their “misinformation” about anything or anyone who opposes them, pretty much took over the Republican Party, pretty much squeezing out long time conservatives and moderates like myself – my voting in the Democratic primaries automatically gets me emails and calls from a new set of politicians. Joe Kennedy was running against Ed Markey for US Senator and I get a call from Kennedy's office. I had to ask, why is he running against Markey, who has been doing a great job. So much of a politician's job has nothing to do with party alignment, but how they work for constituents. And from personal experience, Markey's office is fabulously responsive – never mind that in a true left-right scale, the two align left of center.
So here we have White, not from Pennsylvania and not from Massachusetts, but a community activist in down there in DC, running against Bowser. Why? And furthermore, why should we in these other states even care? Why is it national news and not a local problem? Don’t we all have our own politicians do deal with on this level?
That he is running, leads me to think that he is trapped in his own world, with personal goals not aligning with the real world. But we see, where he does his community work, with Coke and more, he does great for the community. Indeed, Coca Cola's board of directors is quite diverse and they notably offer no comment on the matter. Is this matter comment-able? It appears not. It’s not like he is using Coke’s good name to organize Nazi groups.
Here's a note in White's Wikipedia write-up. "According to The Washington Post, several Jewish organizations in the area said they believed White's apology was sincere and that his comments seemed to have been made from a position of ignorance rather than antisemitism."
Then I search out news about this matter, to see what could make his conspiracy theory news? And it’s not like the articles want to look into how someone comes to make such statement, only to note that he is a member of the opposing party. But we know how neo-Nazis, groups based in racism, find more alignment with the Republicans than Democrats. And sure enough, This story is being carried by what looks to be a circuit of pseudo-news rags interested in spins that make these new Republicans look good. They are not carrying any anti-Semitic Republican politicians. It’s not a story about how anti-Semitism still lives in politicians of every stripe throughout the country, They’ve found one minor Democratic candidate, who'll probably lose anyway, and publish how someone from the opposing party has made rash anti-Semitic statements in his past.
The headline is, “Coca-Cola Hosts Earth Day Event With Democrat Who Says Jews Control Weather.” Does is matter that White is a Democrat? It’s disingenuous. If I were on Coke’s board, I would not give this story the time of day either. They cannot be doing background checks on everyone doing good work.
