Well, sure - if you decide to go through life not taking a chance on anyone besides yourself. But life is precisely about taking those sorts of chances. Sartre's premise woul make love impossible. Only love happens to be actual - rare perhaps, but actual. Sartre is one of those thinkers who make grand preposterous assertions that somehow strike a chord in the adolescent psyche (which can remain dominant in persons long past adolescence, unfortunately).
