I have no dog in this fight ...

... but I do take an interest in poetry and I do think it should address all aspects of life. So take a look at Poem to encourage England football team to win World Cup. (Hat tip, Maxine Clarke, who I didn't know was a football fan (soccer to Yanks) - but then who would have thought that A.S. Byatt would be a passionate snooker fan?

    It's OK, I am not a soccer fan.
    But if you live in the UK you have to kind of absorb it.
    Wayne Rooney's metatarsal leaves me cold, unlike the rest of the nation it seems.
    Awful poem but I expect all the "lads" will like it well enough.
