St. Paul urged the Thessalonians to "pray without ceasing." This is not as odd as it sounds. Just about anything we do can be turned into a prayer — except thinking. Prayer definitely interferes with that. Anyway, given that we really don't know for sure what is going on in life, prayer may be our best bet. There have been, of course, lots of explanations offered to explain things, but no ironclad proof for any of them. And that includes those I subscribe to and whatever others you may subscribe to. The one thing certain is the eventuality of death, itself a threshold to further uncertainty. We really do see things "as through a glass darkly." We have every reason to be wary. We might even want to pray
