In praise of ...

... Henry James. "The Beast in the Jungle" is one of my favorite stroies, period. Anyone unsure as to why James is great should read it.

    That comment might be unfair. I read Daisy Miller at college, and probably wasn't in a mindset to pay it much due.

    "The Beast in the Jungle" is my favorite James, too. Well, okay, I also *really* like _The Aspern Papers_. "Beast," however, reminds us all to live NOW, not later, in some hopefully better future. It really is now or never, as Terry Teachout underscores in the other post you linked to.
