  1. Indeed, not an easy subject to tackle. The subject came up at the recent Bouchercon crime fiction conference in Baltimore, where two Icelandic authors had the novel experience of partying while their country went bankrupt. I asked one whether financial unrest could lead to social unrest, and, while she said it was too early to tell, she gave an indication that it could happen. She also joked – at least I think she was joking – that she’d cut back on the holiday shopping because her credit cards were now worth nothing.

    And here’s a picture of me with another Icelandic crime writer in a more jovial mood.
