Sorry, kids …

Students cry because Catholic chaplain opposes pride flag, follows ‘theological beliefs’.

If you don’t want Catholic doctrine be decisive at a Catholic university, one has to wonder why you are attending a Catholic university. I am of course a graduate of a Catholic university.

  1. I agree with the university's stand on Diversity, Equity & Inclusion:

UP is a close-knit community that’s open to all. It’s a place where diversity, equality, and inclusivity are paramount. That translates into continually striving to create an environment where everyone benefits from being exposed to a wide range of ideas, experiences, and perspectives. Because we believe inclusivity is a way of life, we are always looking at enhancing the types of programs, events, and resources offered so as to best embrace our diverse community.

I graduated from Rivier College, now University. A required course was Introduction to the Bible. I was non-church-going, raised Protestant, at a Catholic college, taking the course taught by Rabbi Schenkerman. When I first got to the school, the head of the Psychology department, in which I became the top graduating student, was a nun, who hired diverse non-Christian professors and instructors. The idea is to teach all ideas, to all students who wish to come. It's not a seminary.
