But that's the point ...

... isn't it? Blogging and Self-Contradiction.

Not only is "Do I contradict myself, etc." one of my own favorite Whitman quotes, but self-contradiction is one of the values of blogging, and what I think it has in common with the Montaigne method. A Montaigne essay is an attempt to keep track of a train of thought. Such trains of thought are always filled with contradictions. It is by tracking such that we get to know who we are. Emerson was right. A foolish consistency really is the hobgoblin of little minds.
