This has been adapted from Bryan's book How to Live Forever or Die Trying, which I have read and can heartily recommend.
I wonder if this preoccupation with life extension isn't something that appeals principally to the middle-aged. The young already feel they are immortal and perhaps, as one grows older, one finds oneself "half in love with easeful death." There is, to me at least, something unaesthetic about going on and on and on.
