The world may indeed be coming to an end ...

... if Time is right as to: 100 people "transforming our world". As Maxine, who sent me this list, notes, it is very odd. Downright idiotic I would say. Zadie Smith is the only Brit - and one of only three writers (the others being Orhan Pamuk and Elie Wiesel).

  1. A hundred people transforming the world?

At the top of my list is George, the mechanic who fixed my car the other day. But then I don't write for "Time". I remember a series on PBS by James Burke, a long time ago, that pretty much convinced me none of us has a clue who is transforming the world. It's a hindsight exercise. Prophets are wrong 99% of the time.

I'm wondering, the guy who designed the printed circuit board for the very first 160 Kbyte floppy disk drive that went into the very first IBM PC that eventually led to the thing sitting on our desks that makes all this communication possible, what was his name?

  2. "Downright idiotic" is a good description, Frank, thanks! I was searching for the apt words and you have encapsulated the list perfectly!
